- Term Two 2010 update!
Welcome to Term Two.The unusually long, dry summer has, at the time of writing, at last come to an end. Certainly the recent torrential rain tested the rain systems of the school and sadly the office roof was found wanting. This will be upgraded in the next few weeks - hopefully before the next bad weather. In addition, we are planning the construction of a new verandah / shelter along the front of Rooms A1-4 which should provide some much needed protection in this area for the future.
It is the term when teachers spend considerable time formally assessing pupil progress in time for reporting to parents in the final week. This across the curriculum check, provides a 'snapshot' of what the children have achieved to that point in time and the intensity of this wide ranging assessment is quite different from the usual ongoing testing that is carried out as a matter of course in different subjects throughout the year. However, it does provide the material that is included in the Portfolios which are the basis for parent interviews. As usual, we expect these to be timetabled for the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of the last week. Last year, nearly 90% of parents attended these interviews, so we look forward to seeing you again in 2010.At the same time we will be reporting in brief on your child's progress toward the new National Standards, although this is not formally required until 2011. However, please remember that actual attainment of these Standards is, for the senior school, not due until the year's end.Winter term activities will soon be in full swing. Often the success of these many teams, is largely due to the input of the many parents who coach, manage, referee or support. Our children and school are certainly fortunate to have a community who is prepared to assist to this extentAs usual, please remember that the success of this school is largely dependent on home and school working in partnership, so communication is vital. If you have any matters that you feel need bringing to our attention, please take the time to get in touch.
Dust off those skis or get out onto those courts, fields and other winter sport places and enjoy the term.
