This year our Gala features a monster Great Gala Garage sale with white elephant,

and other interesting stalls. Try your luck on tombola or "lucky numbers" -
every number wins! There's plenty of fun for young children with "old school"
games and a Glitz n Glam area with hair chalk, nail art and face painting run
by parents and teachers. There's stuff for the big kids too - including bumper
ball, the MEGA water slide, vertical bungy and an inflatable obstacle course.
We have delicious cafe food, toffee apples, popcorn and candy floss. Grab some

PASSION FRIDAYS It was fantastic to see our students engaged
in a range of exciting options last week. It was a real buzz to visit rooms where Irish dance,
guitar, keyboard, jump jam, choir, theatresports, jazz, ballet, drama, kapahaka and choir were
happening. I could have just watched our talented students all day. We are looking forward
to week two!

DEAR PARENTS, WHANAU, AND FRIENDS OF WHANGAPARAOA SCHOOL
Feedback received from last years community meetings, via email and conversation highlighted that
there are concerns about the costs of adopting some of the new initiatives for our school,
such as the chromebooks.
Members of our community expressed interest in creating a fund to support families in genuine hardship
circumstances, and then contributing towards this fund.
The Board of Trustees feel this is an awesome suggestion and reflects the great community spirit
of Whangaparaoa.
As a result the Board is creating a budget and contributing an amount annually to support our families.
If, as parents you would like to contribute to such a fund that would help others, can you
please contact the office or Kevin directly. Your assistance will be very gratefully accepted.
Kevin and the leadership team will administer this fund at their discretion and in complete confidence.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me.
Kind regards Brad Gibbons, on behalf of the Whangaparaoa school Board of Trustees
YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE
PROPERTY This year,
we are eligible for our next 5 year allocation of funds from the Ministry, to enhance our school
property. The Board of Trustees are very interested in hearing what our parent community feels
are our most pressing property issues, and what we should spend our money on. Basically, we will
get about $600,000 to maintain, improve or build new property over a 5 year period. This amount
would buy 2 new classrooms. So please look around the school and if you have ideas about where
we should next prioritise property money, please email kcronin@wgp.school.nz before 3.15pm tomorrow
Friday 17 March.
PRODUCTION AND CAMPS We are asking for parent feedback on the above activities
at our school. Our aim is to ensure that children with these interests and talents are catered
for as they move through the school. Below is a link view the ideas staff have for the next
two years. These experiences are always reliant on being lucky enough to have the personnel
to achieve the plans. Please note: these options are on top of programmes that are already happening. Classes already cater for performing arts needs in the room, and on Passion Fridays, and teachers already plan for experiences outside the classroom when doing their unit of inquiry.

CLASS BLOGS
A big thank you is extended to our staff who have taken up the challenge of creating class blogs.
Please realise that staff are at different levels of expertise in their e-learning, just as
we all are in the different things we do. A class blog is not a basis on which to compare one
teacher with another.
The expectations for the blog are: one is completed weekly and sent out to parents by Monday evening,
it outlines the learning happening in the class that week, it informs parents of any class
information about events or needs.
UNIFORM Thanks everyone for the magnificent effort to raise expectations around
uniform. We are conscious some students are still not wearing the required uniform and we will
be working with them and their families to support that correct uniform is being worn. With
wetter and cooler weather coming, please be aware that students can wear non uniform jackets
and raincoats to and from school, but once at school, the school polar fleece and appropriately
coloured polypropylenes, thermals and skivvies are the accepted uniform items.
Have a great week everyone! From Kevin
