Food for thought/Whakatauki (proverbs)

Manaaki ki te tangata

Be generous

waiata(tia): to sing, song

Māku te waiata e waiata hei tautoko.

I will sing the song as support.

- this is an example of the agent emphatic

Ā muri i ngā whaikōrero ka tū ngā tāngata ki te tautoko i te waiata a te kaikōrero.

After the main speeches the people will stand to support the speaker's song.

THE STORM

Icy drops of rain pounded onto the ground. They ran down my window racing to the bottom. The wind whistled a tune as the thunder shouted in it's booming voice. The lightening attempted to zap the trees but they skillfully dodged every zap. The tempestuous storm raged even louder and louder. Slowly the storm stopped his tantrum. It boomed one last time. He had finished for the day.

EDUCATION PIECE

As a Board of Trustees and school we are asked at times what our stance is on students taking time out of school for tuition. This question has also come up at the Hibiscus Coast Principals meeting. We have consulted with the Ministry of Education and attached are our thoughts and legal obligations. View further information.

PERSONNEL
Leah McNee has won a year 5 / 6 teaching position at Northcross Intermediate. We all congratulate Leah on this appointment. She thoroughly deserves this as a great career path step. We will certainly miss her as a class teacher, a PE and Sport leader and as a person on our staff. We are currently searching for an excellent year 5 / 6 teacher so if you know anyone, ask them to get in touch. The applications close on Wednesday 28 June.

ASSEMBLY
This Friday is a full school assembly. We welcome parents, and hope you will enjoy the things we celebrate as a school, as well as a singalong. Please note the entry for parents coming to assembly are the doors that open out onto the Motutapu Rd school carpark. Assembly starts at 2.20pm.

Have a great week everyone!

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD STARTING SCHOOL?
We have quite a few siblings of current students listed to start school in term 3 & 4 this year. It would be a great help to us for confirming staffing for the rest of the year if you could complete an enrolment form for your child as soon as possible. Please call into the office to pick up an enrolment pack.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THE SCHOOL
Do any of you have a contact that would be available to give the school advice on gardening/landscaping? Then a quotation for completion of works. This would be appreciated. Contact Troy towen@wgp.school.nz or Ph: 021366042.

NETBALL NEWS
Wow-Week 8 this week, that means we are half way through this year’s netball season! It is great to see our Whangaparaoa players enjoying themselves on the court every week.
As the weather gets colder we thought it a good opportunity to remind you all of our uniform policy. Out netball uniform is to be worn on game days only, not for training. Players should be wearing the dress only on court, so that means no leggings or thermal tops to be worn underneath. As parents we often feel the cold standing still courtside, whilst the players are quite warm once they get moving.
Also a reminder that it is not the Coaches and Managers job to look after the players outside of training and game times. Parents please be aware of the times you are required to pick up and drop your child off. Please organise alternate arrangements for your child if you cannot be there to pick them up yourself. It is not ok to let your child wait on the school grounds unattended. Finally we are excited to announce we will running our annual Primary Schools netball tournament on Tuesday 8 August (with a save day of Wednesday 9 August) so get these dates pencilled in on your calender. We will be sending more information out over the next couple of weeks. Whangaparaoa Primary School Netball Committee

WANTED! WANTED! WANTED!
Any old BMX Bike to be donated to the school to be used on our up-coming ‘pump bike track’. If you are able to provide please see our resident bike fixie mechanic - Warren Steel, Deputy Principal.

PARK SAFELY AND KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE
This term our school is participating in Auckland Transport’s ‘Safety at the School Gate’ programme. Drivers who stop in the wrong place to drop off passengers put the safety of children at risk. Parking officers will be on patrol outside the school this term and will be issuing tickets to drivers who park illegally.

The agreed approach is ‘zero tolerance’ – There will be no warnings issued, you will receive a ticket if you are double parked, parked on yellow lines, or over someone’s driveway – or for any other vehicle safety offence.

Please park legally to keep our children safe and to avoid being ticketed. View fines for illegal parking here.

BRING A BLANKET WEEK

Got any spare second hand blankets? Bring them into the school office and donate them to the initiative 'Give A Kid A Blanket'. We need winter warmers that can be distributed to children who are in need this winter.

WINTER UNIFORM SCHOOL BEANIES

We have decided to trial winter Beanie hats as an option to wear in these colder months. We will have a small number of these in stock early next week but will order more as the need arises. The Beanies with our school logo on will be $10.00 each.

UNIFORM SHOP
The uniform shop is open every 2nd Wednesday from 10.15 - 11.00am and on the New Entrant Orientation days from 10.15 - 11.00am.
