Dear Parents and Students,

MUFTI DAY TOMORROW
Show your support of the New Zealand Paralympic Team and Para sport in New Zealand by taking part in our Spirit of Gold Mufti Day. Join us to celebrate 2 years until the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

It's simple - wear mufti and make a gold coin donation to support the New Zealand Paralympic Team and help identify future Paralympians through the community Para sport development programmes.

This week we have our year 4s at Camp Bentzon, we have our year 3s doing an outdoor adventures week, we have hosted our Community of Learning (COL) for professional learning at our school, we have had 4 teachers visiting Stonefields School in Mt Wellington for their own professional learning, we have had lots of people away sick and we have started staff appraisals. It is always an exciting and dynamic time when you are a teacher at our school.!!

LEARNING CELEBRATION - 20 September 2018
On Thursday 20 September, our school will finish at 12.45pm so we can have a Learning Celebration afternoon and evening with our parents.

We are offering parents the opportunity to choose a 30-minute timeslot. In this time students will share their learning, their goals, their proud moments, examples of their work and details of their classroom. The teacher will also schedule a time slot per family (during the conference time) to answer any specific questions the student or parents may have. Further booking information here.

Thanks to our PFA who once again organised a super quiz night. The high standard of dress was amazing and set the tone for a fun filled and mind boggling evening. Thank you everyone for attending and a special thank you to Kate, Jenny, Lisa and Kelly who led our fab PFA team on this fun occasion.

Have a great week

If you have a child who will be starting with us any time in 2019 please email your child's name, birthdate, preschool, address and a contact number to and next time you are passing the office call in and pick up an enrolment pack. It is a great help for us to know expected numbers in advance for planning classes and staffing. If you have any questions about the enrolment or transition to school process please email Nicola Winter -

Whangaparaoa School presently operates an Enrolment Scheme to prevent overcrowding. For 2019 we can offer a limited number of out of zone placements.

Applications open Tuesday 4th of September 2018 and closes Friday 21 September 2018 for pupils starting in the 2019 school year. For clarification of our school zone and an applications form please email If applications exceed the number of spaces available a ballot will be held on Friday 28 September 2018.

Photolife will visit our school next Monday 10 September to take our team photos in the school hall. Order envelopes will be available once these photos have been taken.

Whangaparaoa School are lucky enough to have been asked to host a Writing Camp during the first four days of the October holiday. The cost of the camp is $195 and will be held on our school premises. All Y5/6 students have been given a leaflet promoting the camp and we hope to see lots of them there. The camp is open to all students on the Coast Years 5 – 10. There are only 30 places so you need to book quickly. The leaflet gives you a little more information and tells you how to book.

The purpose of the Writing Camp is to give all budding writers the opportunity to work with a real live author to increase their knowledge in the craft of writing.

The author running our camp is Maria Gill. Maria is a Kiwi writer known for her many books (well over 40) which look at the world around us – with a particular view at looking at New Zealand and its place in the world. You can find out more about Maria by visiting her website
Maria visited us during our Book Week in Term 1 and introduced us all to the merits of non-fiction writing.

The children will work on their own projects and have the full attention of Maria Gill.

If you have any further questions or would like to enrol for this camp please contact Libby Staden-Lea in A3 or visit the website

It's that time of the year already where the Yummy Sticker Promotion of 2018 is nearing its end. Time to get those stickers in and do a hard push to the end of the term. Last year we were able to purchase sport equipment for the school and this year it will be no different. A huge Thank You to all you wonderful collectors who have done a fantastic job so far! I can't wait to tally up the totals. Go Yummy Stickers!

The annual Netball Prize Giving will be held on Wednesday 12 September at 7pm in the School Hall. The Whangaparaoa Netball Committee would like to warmly invite ALL players, their families and team Coaches and Managers along to celebrate a fantastic season of Netball at our school! We look forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks - The Whangaparaoa Netball Committee
