Dear Parents and Students
What an Event!
It was so great to be at school last Wednesday as all the children participated in the School Triathlon.
Congratulations to the teachers for organising a great event for the second year in a row. Surely
this will now become an annual event at Whangaparaoa School. Thanks also to all the parents who
took time out to join us for the day and support the pupils as they strived to be the best they
could be. As one teacher has already commented there were AMAZING examples of ORCA values in action
at the Triathlon (team spirit, perseverance, collaboration and achievement) A special thanks to
our Parents and Friends (PFA) who provided such an important supporting role in ensuring this event
was such a success. Please get behind them as they prepare for the next big event coming up - The
School Gala.

Lockdown Drill - Wednesday 27th March
As part of school health and safety protocol we need to practise procedures for emergencies such as
fire, earthquake, tsunami and unwelcome intruders (school lockdown). We will be practising the
next school lockdown alert on Wednesday 27th March.
- This alert is activated by the office through a speaker system and the message requires the students
to move to an area in the classroom quickly and quietly, and hide away from windows.
- The teachers lock the doors.
- When the danger is removed, children and teachers are informed and things return to normal.
- Parents would be informed of any real lockdown by Linc-Ed, and facebook messages.
- If the children are outside when this alert happens senior staff will direct students to the
safe areas in the school.
Our staff will spend the next week talking the children through the procedures and ensure that they
understand why we practice this. It is also very helpful if parents talk to students, as it can
be quite scary. The object is to keep everyone safe therefore students must know what actions to
take and practice them. (keeping as calm as they can). Unwelcome intruders can be things like bees,
dogs, the weather (tornados), or people.

LOST PROPERTY
There are a lot of lost property items at the back of the school hall.
A lot of these items have names on them. If your child is missing something, please take a minute
to check the lost property before the end of term.
All remaining lost property will be understood as unwanted and will be removed.
Items will then be distributed to those in need within our community, or on-sold by the PFA.
