Dear Parents and Students,
This week is the last week that most of our learning assistants will be working with their classes. We are the only
school I know that provides this extra support for our teachers and our learners. I would like to thank the BOT
for their support with this initiative and making it one of the priorities in our budget.
On behalf of our staff and community, I would like to thank our LA's for the wonderful job they do. Their commitment
to the children and helping them learn is substantial. Their support in the class to help the children engage in
their learning when the teacher is teaching their groups is extremely helpful. Lastly their work to jump beside
our teachers and use their talents to help our children is appreciated. We will miss you over the next 6 weeks.
- Next WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14 from 7 - 8.15pm, we will have our Term 4 community meeting. This
meeting will cover areas like : class levels, teachers and classrooms for 2019; meet the teacher on day 1,
2019; changes for 2019: end of year assemblies, reports, stationery, class placement and a few other things.
Hope you can put some time aside to be there.
- ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 at 9am, 2pm and 6.30pm we invite our parents to meetings in the
staffroom to find out more about Collaboration and Collaborative Classrooms. Come along and join us at these
meetings and be well informed.
- TOMORROW we are having a whole school mufti day for our Year 6 students who are hoping to raise
some funds to organise a special end of year graduation event with their families. Students who wear mufti
will be asked to contribute a gold coin.
TEACHERS STRIKE MONDAY 12 NOVEMBER
NEXT MONDAY The NZEI, which is the teachers union, has advised the Whangaparaoa School Board of Trustees
that teachers from our school will be taking strike action for a full day on Monday 12 November 2018.
The Board has considered the availability of teaching staff, and we are unable to provide enough teaching cover during
the strike. The school will therefore need to close for the day.
It is important that parents make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike.
We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is
our main concern.
Whangaparaoa School After School Care will operate on the 12 November 2018 for the Teachers Strike Day. Hours: 7.30
am - 5.30 pm. Contact Karen Ph. 021 705 804 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for any inquires, costs or bookings. VERY LIMITED SPACES. NB: Children must be pre-booked and please note you will
have to pre-pay for this care. Thank you for your understanding.
If you have any queries relating to this decision please direct them to email@example.com
On behalf of the Whangaparaoa School Board of Trustees.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
In preparing for next year we would like to let you know that our school will
be going online for your stationery and uniform requirements. This means that parents will place their orders through
their devices and your purchases will be delivered to your home. More information on how this system works will
follow in mid November.
