Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to term 3. We hope you enjoyed some great family times over the last two weeks. It was fantastic to see the students buzzing as they came in on Monday, excited to see their friends and teachers.
As a staff, we welcome Bronwyn Dale to B10 and our newest class of 5 year olds. We also welcome Charmaine Wilson and Nicky Dalzell who will be working as learning assistants in K1, A1 and A2.
Finally we welcome lots of new students and families to Whangaparaoa, as well as a group of international students who have joined us from China. We hope your time with us is a great experience and lots of fun.

OUT OF THIS WORLD
Our learning inquiry focus this term is “Out of this World”. We hope you enjoy exploring lots of interesting questions and thinking around this topic with your children.

TRAVEL RAFFLE
Thank you everyone for helping us sell tickets and raise money towards the toilet and foyer area in the hall. We raised a fantastic $13,000.

A special thank you goes to our amazing PFA for organising this fundraiser. Congratulations to our Junior and Senior top sellers. Junior top seller: Mason Doak L5. Senior top seller: Ryan Toomey M4. Top selling Classroom B1 and top selling VLC Team 6.

We would love to jump in and upgrade this hall area right now. Our project manager has asked us to be patient as he feels there is no point in upgrading this area, then finding out the cladding and roofing is not up to standard. This is sound advice. Please be assured your fundraising efforts will not be lost elsewhere in the school. The hall is a massive project and we need to be strategic about how we approach the work in a logical and staged manner. Expect to read more about this in future newsletters.

STRIKE
The day set aside for the teacher strike is August 15. At this stage the strike is planned for the afternoon, however teachers are voting about whether this will be extended to a full day. More on this next week.

Have a great week
Kevin
