Dear Parents and Students
Well done to our students and staff for making such a fantastic start to the school year. We already see our students
living our ORCA values by helping others, challenging themselves, using their manners, having a go, working
hard and sharing respect.
Thanks also to our staff for the hard work you are putting into building relationships and setting up the learning
environment for a successful year.
Thank you parents too, for helping the students set up successfully for the school year. We have really appreciated
your support to get stationery and uniform sorted. We are also very grateful for the level of support to our
school donation. As you can see, we are working hard to provide an exciting and smart school environment. Work
on the hall, painting of rooms and fundraising for a new adventure playground are goals we are working towards.
Your contributions to our school donation, no matter how big or small are valued.
COMMUNICATION We apologise for the huge number of emails being sent home. We are trying to
keep you informed on lots of fronts, and will endeavour to streamline this.
There will be two important communications coming home each week. The first is on a Monday when the class teacher,
through the class blog, will let you know the things that are happening in the class that week. The second
is on Thursday when the school newsletter comes out with all the relevant schoolwide information.
LEARNING ASSISTANTS (LA) In 2017 we employed 15 learning assistants across the school, and
we are offering this opportunity again. A learning assistant, in most cases, is one of our parents who works
with a teacher to help students with their learning. They work between 14 and 18 hours a week depending on
the year level they are teaching. If you are interested in applying for an LA position, please provide a letter
informing us about your skill set/experience, your current or previous line of work, your children at school
and any other interests/passions you feel might be relevant. Applications close on Friday, February 23. If
you have any questions please email Kevin at kcronin@wgp.school.nz.
Please note applicants will be police vetted. The position will start about week 5 or 6 this term and finish about
week 5 in term 4.
ANY WORRIES OR CONCERNS PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come and see us at the first sign of any concern
so we can work together to be informed and help stop niggles before they grow into problems.
Any concerns in the classroom, please involve your child’s teacher straight away. Further concerns would be directed
to the team leader of your child’s learning community and then the deputy principals.
If it is a school policy or school decision you are unhappy about or disagree with, bring it straight to Kevin,
Gordie or Warren.
