PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS
One of the best parts of my job is getting out of the office and having some time to spend with our children. They are just delightful - so well mannered, enthusiastic and talented in so many ways. The other thing I really enjoy is being part of a great staff that is committed to providing a range of diverse and exciting learning opportunities and experiences for the children.

BOT ELECTION - VOTING CLOSES TOMORROW!!
Voting forms were sent out Wednesday 29 May to all parent/caregivers on the electoral roll. This is a postal and manual election and the voting paper is valid only if returned in the addressed envelope provided.
You can vote for up to 6 Parent Representatives for your Board of Trustees. You can choose to vote for less Parent Representatives but if you vote for more than 6 Representatives your vote will not be eligible.
Voting closes at 12 noon TOMORROW Friday 7 June 2019.Returning Officer: Catherine Ford, Whangaparaoa School Office, 39 Ladies Mile, Manly, 0930.

THANK YOU PARENTS
Our staff would like to extend a big thank you for sharing some time with us last Thursday to talk about your child. We know that by working together we can be very effective in helping your child grow.

FAMILY FIRST
One of the things we prioritise as a staff is the concept of family first. This means if there was ever a call from family for help we would encourage our staff to go quickly, and as a staff, we would help out.
Likewise when our teachers go home, we expect them to put family first. We need them to rest, have other interests and have time with their family.
In terms of school work, we expect our teachers to prepare well for the next day, and in relation to emails, we would expect our teachers to react to parents within a 48 hour period during the school week. Society today tends to expect a rapid response. We want our teachers to have a life outside the workplace, and come to school fresh each day, ready to teach and learn with children.

SCHOOL DONATIONS
The current governments decision to give $150 per child as a form of school donation for Decile 1 to 7 schools means we miss out on $110,000 for our school each year. This means if we want to provide the best teachers and learning environment, we need continued community support. We ask you all to consider paying the school donation, or as much as you can, so we can keep extending the learning for your children. Thank you to those who have already done this - every little bit helps.

SCHOOL BOOK WEEK - June 17 – 21
Theme: Roald Dahl
During Week Eight of this term we will be hosting a Book Week throughout the whole school.
The purpose of holding this event is:

  • To compliment work in the classroom
  • To promote books and libraries
  • To enhance the enjoyment of reading
  • To enquire into how New Zealand and other cultures are represented through books and authors.

As part of Book Week there will be quizzes run in the classrooms and a chance to win some book vouchers by entering the Y1-3 book mark competition or the Y4-6 Wanted Poster competition. The children can be as creative as they wish and then bring their creations along to school to be judged. Good luck, everyone!

Throughout the week there will also be times within each Learning Community to share books with buddy classes and hear different teachers read their favourite books.

On the last Friday of Book Week we will all be coming to school dressed as book characters and taking part in a parade – weather permitting. Now is the time to start thinking about what to come dressed up as! The children’s costumes can be as simple or as fancy as you like.

CHUNKY MONKEY
Chunky Monkey Drum Academy is coming to Whangaparaoa Primary Term 3! A fun and productive approach to learning! Lessons available every Friday with Drum Tutor Rhys Fuller. Lessons are $125 per term!
