Dear Parents and Students

POWHIRI TOMORROW for new students, staff and families - this starts at 9.10am in the hall and will last no more than 30 minutes. Everybody is welcome to join us as we extend a warm welcome to these new people in our school.

Major Sponsorship Announcement
- Whangaparaoa School Gala 2018 -

We are really excited to announce that McDonalds Whangaparaoa has joined the Gala Team as our Major Event Sponsor 2018 !

We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the owner PJ Goel, a local “Coastie” who is proactively involved in community engagement along the Coast, working with Hibiscus Coast RSA, Whangaparaoa Community Patrol, and now Whangaparaoa School.

In addition to supporting our Gala as our Major Event Sponsor, McDonalds Whangaparaoa will be sponsoring our Games stalls and providing some great prizes!

This support means a huge amount to our Gala efforts, and ultimately what we are able to give back to the School - and most importantly the Students.

LEARNING ASSISTANTS (LA)
In 2017 we employed 15 learning assistants across the school, and we are offering this opportunity again. A learning assistant, in most cases, is one of our parents who works with a teacher to help students with their learning. This year they will work between 14 and 18 hours a week depending on the year level they are teaching. If you are interested in applying for an LA position, please provide a letter informing us about your skill set/experience, your current or previous line of work, your children at school and any other interests/passions you feel might be relevant. Applications close tomorrow, Friday, February 23. If you have any questions please email Kevin at kcronin@wgp.school.nz.

Please note applicants will be police vetted. The position will start about week 5 or 6 this term and finish about week 5 in term 4.

One of our teachers, Sam Gilmour, came across this article.
