Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you for all your work and support in Term 1. It has been a busy time with lots of events, trips and opportunities. Thank you to our hard working staff who go the extra mile to help make these things happen. I hope you all have an enjoyable break over the next 2 weeks. Take care.
TOUCH BASE MEETINGS
In Week 3 of Term 2, we are inviting parents to join their child and teacher to have a 15 minute meeting. The meeting is an opportunity to touch base and focus together on the child and their learning. These meetings will be held on Wednesday, May 16 from 1.30 to 6.30pm and Thursday May 17 from 3.15 - 5.30pm.
Please note parents will be asked to pick their child up at 1.00pm on Wednesday, May 16. This supports our teachers
and means they do not have to stay too late at night to get through their meetings.
HOW TO BOOK A TOUCH BASE MEETING TIME?
- Go to the website www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter our school code: xng44
- You will need your child’s 2018 year, classroom, and name of teacher, to complete your booking.
- Enter these details and choose a time that suits you. You will receive an emailed confirmation of your booking.
- If you are unable to complete your booking online, please either:
- Email email@example.com with child/rens names and preferred times
- Call into the school office and fill out a booking sheet.
- Our staff are working late on Wednesday and Thursday to provide this opportunity. Please look after them.
- On a rare occasion when we have a parent come in who is upset about something; our advice is – Respect the
Person.“The problem is the problem; the person is never the problem” Control your emotions and think “How
can I help?”
AFTER SCHOOL CARE
If you have a regular booking on Wednesday - you
are automatically booked into After School Care at 1.30pm. There may be a few casual places on that day available
- please contact Karen on 021 705 804 to put your name on the list.
WHANGAPARAOA SCHOOLS BOOK WEEK
Book Week is nearly over!
We have had a fantastic time sharing books, visiting other classes, taking part in quizzes, making competition
entries and enjoying many other activities.
It has been great walking into other classes and finding out how very important books are to them.
We were so lucky to have our two visiting authors come and visit us. Chris Gurney and Maria Gill were amazing
and have helped to inspire those budding authors among us.
Tomorrow will be our Book Character Parade led by O3, fingers crossed for fine weather.
We hope you have your costumes sorted!
Many thanks for your valued support.

WHAT DO WE DO IN AN EMERGENCY?
At Whangaparaoa School we all need to know what to do in case of an emergency. We have drills so that we all know
how we can keep safe in case of Fire, Tsunami, Earthquake and Lockdown (unwelcome visitors, swarm of bees,
dogs and people).
Today we had a Fire Drill to show everyone how we keep calm and get ourselves and others safely to the evacuation
points on our field. A5 tamariki have put up a sign for each class on the fence so that everyone knows where
they need to gather.
This is also a chance for our whanau to talk with their tamariki about what they can do at home in case of emergencies.
What plans do you have in place?
Next term we will have drills for :
Earthquake and Tsunami - Thursday 3 May
Fire Drill - Friday 18 May
Lockdown - Wednesday 6 June
In Term 2, our children will be inquiring into the World of Performance Arts.
If you are able to help with any of the following materials it would be greatly appreciated. Collection of
materials will happen in Week 1 of Term 2 outside the office block.
Thank you for your help in gathering these materials. We may call for more materials throughout next term as the
children develop their ideas further.
WORKING BEE FOR THE CANTEEN
Our very busy, well used canteen is getting ready for our next
Council approval visit and is very overdue for some paint, a little electrical work and some general maintenance.
We will also need a stainless steel bench with sink top.
Alison is hoping that she can rally up some volunteers to help with this. If you can help please contact Alison
Ph 021 02394224 Many thanks.
