CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONS AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
On Tuesday 4 July the Year 5/6 Whangparaoa Primary School league team travelled to Cornwall Park
to take part in the Champions of Champions League Tournament. There were two weight divisions
and our team competed in the under 45kgs division.
There were 10 teams in our division. First up, we played a really hard and close game against
Bairds Mainfreight and we won 5:4. Next, we played Konini School and we won 3:1. After that,
we played Puhunui and won 5:4 - another hard game. The last game of that round we played Bailey
Road School and we won 7:1.
We got through to the semi finals and played against Bayfield, winning 4:2, then into the finals
against Bairds Mainfreight again. It was a tough game in the first half but by the end, we
had won 9:6 which meant we won the whole tournament and the trophy.
Jacob Ludlow was named Most Valuable Player but it was a real team effort throughout the day.
We would like to thank Leah, Troy and Morgan for helping us along the way.

Thanks staff, parents and children for a great term of learning. We
are already looking forward to term 3 and some exciting new ideas. We hope the holidays are
full of fun times with your family, and some relaxation.
PFA TRAVEL RAFFLE
Please find attached a draft plan for our proposed new adventure playground.
The money raised from the raffle will contribute towards a playground like this. Our aim is for every family
to sell 1 book of raffle tickets. If you can't do this, please return your tickets to the office as soon as
you can, because some of our students and families are making a huge effort to help achieve our goal.
HEAD LICE CAMPAIGN STARTS TOMORROW
We would like to bring to your attention
this very useful information from a parent at our school regarding head lice. Every family
can do a little bit tomorrow and it could create an amazingly positive outcome View treatment information. View prevention information.
Next term we will see Vertical Learning Community teachers start to offer some
different options on Passion Friday. We are also offering parents the opportunity to propose an activity they
think children might enjoy. Parents would need to be police vetted and supervised by staff. This is a chance
for parents to pass on your talents and knowledge to our children. Any proposals can be emailed to Warren Steel
before Wednesday of week 1 of term 3. firstname.lastname@example.org. If as
a parent you do not want to organise something but you would be keen to help a teacher with something on Fridays,
just let the class teacher know.
Mid year reports will be coming home on the last day of term. These reports will have the national standards
information. This is a judgement made by teachers from multiple sources of evidence, over time. Although this
piece of information is important and it gives you an idea of where your child may be according to a standard,
looking at progress, attitude and effort is key to moving any standard forward. We also believe that looking
at the values section is essential, as being a great person is the most important thing of all.
TREATING A STAPH INFECTION
Recently some of our students have picked up a staph bacteria infection.
The following treatment is recommended. Keep the sore or infected area covered with a dressing/plaster until
it has healed up. Don't scratch the area, and avoid touching it. Wash your hands well after touching the infected
area. Don't let anyone else touch the infected area. Clean the infected area with water every day and cover
again with a clean dressing/plaster. See your doctor if the infected area or sore:
- is larger than the size of a 10 cent coin (approximately 1.5 cm).
- is getting bigger.
- has pus.
- has red streaks coming from it.
- is not getting any better after two days.
- is near an eye.
Term 2 finishes at 3.00pm on Friday 7 July 2017.
Term 3 commences on Monday 24 July 2017 and finishes Friday 29 September.

ALIEN INVASION BY APRIL LODGE 04
All my life I have never believed in aliens, but all that
One lunchtime at Whangaparaoa Primary School something totally unexpected happened. All was going just fine until
a giant spaceship landed in the middle of the senior field. The vast spaceship was a dark miserable black and
had many windows that lit up like city lights. At this particular time, Martha and I were playing netball on
the courts when we heard a terribly loud noise on the field. We ran over to see what it was......continue reading the story here.
