PARENT CONSIDERATIONS FORM FOR CLASS PLACEMENT
Every year schools take on the complex challenge of placing children
into classes for the next year.
When doing this, staff take into consideration many factors such as learning needs, strengths, friendships and personalities to create
balanced classes. If you would like to contribute information to assist us in placing your child, please complete this form for consideration, before Monday 29 October, 2018.
The nature of this task means there are many tough decisions to be made. As a staff, we will always come back to what we think is best
for the child - taking into account what we know about their needs, the needs of other children, the teachers and the school direction.
Our teachers know our children well, and we know our teachers well. We ask that you respect the process, the collective thinking
and opportunity, as well as the decision made.
COMMUNITY FRUIT AND VEGE STAND
Wendy and the team at Whangaparaoa Kindergarten have introduced a fantastic fruit
and vegetable stand in Motutapu Rd (at the exit of our school carpark). Members of our community are invited to provide any surplus
fruit or vegetables they have, so that others can enjoy. Everyone can prosper from such an initiative. Our collective responsibility
is to ensure our children respect the stand and look after the food. If you see any children not showing the respect required,
please remind them that this stand is to help others. If they are in our uniform, see if you can find out a name and then let us
know please. Initiatives like this only work if everyone pulls together.
TUAKANA HIBISCUS CULTURAL GROUP
Does your child want to know how to do a Cook Island hula (dance), a Samoan siva
(dance), a Niue and Tongan dance? Do they want to learn a Lilo and Stitch or a Moana dance? Tuakana Hibiscus cultural group is
coming to our school to teach a combination of Pacific Islands / Polynesian cultural dances. There will be lots of fun and laughter
in our Friday afternoon lessons so children can come and learn from our young and experienced tutors from the Pacific. Once they
know Pacific Island/Polynesian dances, we will have a small performance (Fiafia/Kai time) at the end of the term to showcase the
talents and skills of Pacific culture to our parents and we will end it with some yummy Pacific Island/Polynesian food! Everyone
is welcome to join us on Friday afternoons at 2.20pm after the Kapa Haka group. Our first get together is this Friday.
We have many exciting things happening this term. Tomorrow we start Friday clay classes and have 15 enrolments. There are also athletics
days, personal inquiries, a year 6 camp, beach visits, water slides and water battles. We also have a new Polynesian cultural group
starting up this term. Add to that our normal reading, writing and maths focus and many school events like Halloween discos, Christmas
on the Green and end of year prizegivings the time is going to fly by quickly !
We look forward to working with our parents and embracing every opportunity we can to help our children grow and learn.

PFA CARE FUND
There are times that school families are faced with a traumatic situation, such as critical illness or unexpected bereavement. The PFA offers support to some of these families by way of petrol vouchers, childcare, food vouchers or similar. To ensure we can continue to do this, and to have a discreet pot of money available, the PFA has decided to hold one fundraising event a year dedicated to raising money for the Care Fund. If you are aware of a family who is coping with a traumatic situation and you would like the PFA to provide some assistance, please speak to a member of the PFA or a member of staff who can point you in the right direction. We know that we can’t work miracles, but we hope that by supporting these families, we can ease some of the burden.The inaugural fundraising event for the PFA Care Fund is the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Movie Night on 7th Nov. LOST PROPERTY
This week orange stickers have been placed on items located in the school hall to assist with knowing
how long an item has been sitting there unclaimed. Due to the high volume of lost property any items, with the orange stickers,
still remaining at the end of week 2 in Term 4 will be removed. Should you have misplaced property at any time during the year
we highly recommend that you check the lost property prior to the 26th October.
