Dear Parents and Students,
NO READING, WRITING OR MATHS? I was surprised last week when a parent asked me "Why do we
no longer teach reading, writing and maths"? I was a little shocked and asked "What makes you say that"? She replied
"Well with this modern learning it seems there is no longer any teaching in these core subjects". Please be assured all teachers in our school teach our children reading, writing and maths at their level.
The only changes with modern learning are we try to apply learning to meaningful contexts, and we provide children
with some choice in their learning to help engage them.
LINC-ED PARENT ACCOUNT NEW FEATURE If you are the Bill Payer at school, we have recently added
a new feature to your Linc-Ed Parent Account. It is a $ sign. This is where you can check your account for
trips, sports events, school activities, donation requests and will show any payments you have made. For any
enquiries please contact Karen or email pa@wgp.school.nz.
CANTEEN REVIEW We are currently reviewing the canteen and the service it provides our community.
We would love student and parent feedback. There are new regulations around making food onsite and we need
to look at how we can best provide for our community needs.
Here is the link to the survey.
Please give us your thoughts and ideas by the end of this coming Monday, March 28.
PAID UNION MEETING As much as we know this is a big inconvenience, it is time to take action
to ensure work conditions and pay will support quality people being attracted to the teaching profession, and
ultimately teaching your children. The union meeting is on Tuesday 19 June 2018. Children will need to be picked up from their classes at 1.00pm. (note change of time). Thank you for your anticipated support.
DECREASING OUR LITTER FOOTPRINT As a school, we are asking students to take any plastic and
lunch wrappings home with them, as from next Monday. Some classes have already been doing this and we are now
all joining in. We would like to cut down the litter in our environment as well as we think it may help parents
see what their child has or has not eaten in their day.
Have a great week everyone Kevin
