WESTPAC HELICOPTER
ANNUAL APPEAL MUFTI DAY
Tomorrow Friday 26 May we will have a mufti day to raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter annual appeal. Dress in mufti - wear a wig or facial hair - Please bring along a gold coin donation to support this much needed service.

EDUCATION PIECE
In weeks coming up we are going to try and include an education piece. This could be highlighting why we do things (there are many new families and keeping them informed is important), answering a parent request topic, or reporting on something current that is happening in education. If you have anything you would like to know more about, send an email through to the office.

KAPA HAKA
Parents have been asking about kapa haka. We have had kapa haka happening in different forms this year which are advertised on the daily Panui at school. We are embracing a range of opportunities, including the traditional kapa haka. We have poi, ti rakau/sticks, whai/string games and waiata joining Passion Friday choices and students can attend without cost. We are always looking for talented whanau to join us in presenting Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Maori to our school. If you know someone who can help us in this area please let Gordie Palmer know. We will be taking a group of performers to Whangaparaoa Public Library on 14 June to celebrate Matariki.

MILK
A couple of parents have been asking about milk organisation. With the work we are doing on classes and learning environments the milk space has been captured for this need. We are also reviewing the organisation as it did impact on children's learning time and it does create a workload for staff. If you would like to discuss organisation for milk and would be prepared to help please email kcronin@wgp.school.nz

PROPERTY
We have had incidents of children's clothing and shoes going missing. We ask that if parents see any items come home with your child that are not your childs, please do the right thing and return it to the teacher. Please ensure all uniform items are clearly named.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR LEAGUE TEAM!!!
Our Year 6 Boys Rugby League Team competed in the North Harbour Zone Knock Out Competition held at Sunnynook on Tuesday 23 May. It was a glorious and the children were very excited. they put in an awesome, winning the competition. Our team will now represent the North Harbour zone in the Auckland Champion of Champions. GREAT RESULTS AT WORLD TAEKWONDO TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to Charlie Teviotdale who competed in the World TaeKwonDo Tournament at North Shore Events Centre on Sunday 14 May. He achieved a Bronze in the under 40kg black belt division Kyoruki (sparring). Well Done!

E-LEARNING MEETING

On Wednesday 31 May from 6.30 to 7.30pm in the school staffroom there will be a parent information evening presenting how we are progressing on our journey with e-Learning. The agenda for the evening will be:
- What we have achieved so far!
- Teacher tools.
- Google Apps for Education.
- Student tools for learning - sites / apps.
- The SAMR model for integrating technology.
- Good sites for learning at home.

NETSAFE
On Wednesday 7 June from 7-8.00pm in the school staffroom, there will be a parent evening with a presentation by NetSafe. The purpose of this evening is to help parents with aspects of keeping students safe online. The presentation will cover:
- Digital Safety / Citizenship.
- Tips for keeping safe online at home.
- Things to be aware of / keep in mind for families to keep children safe online.

PHOTOLIFE INDIVIDUAL PORTRAITS/SIBLING PHOTOS AND CLASS PHOTOS
Photolife will be visiting our school next week on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 May to take Individual/Sibling and class photos. Every student is photographed for the Individual and class photos. If you would like a sibling photo, you need to collect a sibling photo request form from the school office. This form needs to be completed and returned to the school office by Monday morning. A few weeks after photo day students will bring home a Shoot Key that will enable you to view and purchase photos online.

COGNITIVE SCREENING The assessor from Educational Assessment Services will be in school for four days this term - 30th May, 7th June, 14th June, 28th June - to complete cognitive screening on children identified earlier this year. Parents of selected students will be notified (or have been last term). We apologise that due to unforeseen circumstances the screening dates are later than originally planned.

SCIENCE CERTIFICATES/BADGES
Is your child interested in Science? These certificates and badges are self-paced Science learning - choose activities to complete from a menu. Science certificates aimed at year 5&6 but available for anyone keen on Science. $2 for the menu of activities. Science badges are more complex and aimed at year 7-10 students, but available to keen primary school scientists who have completed a Science certificate - $6 each for a menu of activities to choose from, and a metal badge on completion. WALKING SCHOOL BUSES
Would you like your child to walk to school safely? We have three walking school buses
run by parent volunteers. We would love to have you join us - it’s a free, fun and healthy way to get to school! Children walk in a group with an adult supervising. Great for learning road safety and for making friends. You can join at the start of the route or along the way as we walk to school. Links are provided for an online form to sign up if you are interested. We are always happy to have more children, and would also love more adult volunteers.

FOSTER HOPE PYJAMA DRIVE
Every year Foster Hope runs a Pyjama Drive to collect new pyjamas for children who are placed in foster care. Read more here

LOVE TO COOK?? WE NEED YOU *** WANTED *** AMAZING RECIPES

We have had some great recipes in at the end of last year and have been busy sampling them all but we need more.

Your school's PFA are embarking on a journey to create an amazing cookbook. With an emphasis on healthy, wholesome and fresh food, we would love to receive your recipes to our email address - wgpschoolcookbook@gmail.com

Initially we are asking for submissions under the following headings:

Brunch
Take a Plate
Sweet Things
Birthday Food
Entertaining

We are hoping to receive a wide variety of recipes so feel free to send more than one. Submissions that include a photo of the finished product would help when sorting recipes. Not every recipe will be included but we will do our best to provide a fantastic collection of dishes from our amazing students, teachers and their families.

The next PFA meeting is at 7.30pm Wednesday 31 May in the staff room.
